The Zhang Lab values all individuals and strives to build an equitable research environment to freely explore both science and ourselves.
In a world that houses many people there comes with that a myriad of cultures, ideas, and beliefs. Science can be the connector between our many communities. We share the same planet and though our disciplines are as diverse as our backgrounds, as scientists we share the same fundamental desire: to understand this world we live in. Therefore, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive lab culture and actively stand against prejudice. We value each member of our community and discrimination against race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, age, religion, or other personal identifier will not be tolerated. Inclusivity and acceptance do not end at the door to the lab but are brought into our department, school, and scientific communities. It is the work of countless scholars before us that have brought us to where we are now- we pride ourselves on continuing this tradition while uplifting voices that have historically been left out of the literature and community at large. We are explorers- we seek to make discoveries about how the world works; sometimes the unknown is in the brain of a roundworm or a vessel of a human and other times it is within ourselves.
